EL LEOPARDO DE LAS NIEVES-JUAN MARTINEZ
Conocido también como irbis, el leopardo de las nieves es un mamífero carnívoro, que se destaca por tener un cuerpo angosto, cubierto por un abundante y muy fino pelaje, cuyos colores son el blanco grisáceo, con manchas redondas y pequeñas en todo el cuerpo. Esto le permite mimetizarse con su hábitat cuando se siente amenazado o cuando está en plena faena de caza. Su cuerpo mide unos 60 cm de alto y posee un largo que puede alcanzar los 150 cm, sin incluir su cola que mide 1 metros. Sus 4 patas son anchas y esponjosas, lo que le permite desplazarse con suma facilidad por zonas cubiertas por la nieve y el hielo. Su peso puede llegar hasta los 55 kg. las hembras son algo más pequeñas que los machos. Los ejemplares de leopardos de las nieves que viven de manera salvaje pueden llegar a tener una expectativa de vida de 12 años, mientras que en cautiverio han llegado a vivir más de 20 años.
